Milan High School

The Art Department teamed up with the band tonight to showcase the incredible talent of our students! Mrs. Parr and her students had their artwork on display in the MHS atrium, creating a great atmosphere for the evening’s performances. We are proud of the creativity and hard work our students continue to share with our school community!

Our Spring Pops Band Concert did not disappoint! 🎶 Director Stefani Bedel and our student musicians sounded incredible tonight. A special thank you to Mt. St. Joseph University Band Director Mark McCafferty for joining the band for a number — what a great experience for our students! And a huge shoutout to our seniors for their dedication, leadership, and contributions to the MHS Band program over the years. We are proud of you and grateful for all you’ve given to MHS!

We promised you an update, and here it is! Biology students have spent the last 7 days building their prosthetic legs before putting them to the test today. We were really impressed with the results! Big thank you to the Ripley County Community Foundation for the grant to provide Mrs. Sciutto and Mrs. Seals with 2 Chompsaws to aid students in this project!

Big night for our students! 🔥 Our high school choir brought energy, effort, and pride from start to finish for tonight's concert. They performed "Count on Me", "Bubbly", and "I see the Light". Proud of the way they represented our school!

Our 2026 MHS Alumni Award recipient, Marcy Simpson (Class of ’95), returned to MHS today to share her journey with our students. She delivered a powerful message about believing in yourself, surrounding yourself with positive influences, and practicing gratitude. We’re grateful she took time out of her busy schedule to give back to MHS—and she was kind enough to share the Indiana University Football National Championship trophy with us as well!

The Jazz Band had a great performance tonight at The Holdsworth Pavilion in Versailles tonight!  Thanks to all that came out to support them!

Mrs. Seals’ and Mrs. Sciutto’s classes were joined by a guest speaker today to begin their unit project on prosthetic legs. Students have been challenged  with designing and building a functional prosthetic leg that also addresses another task. Students could choose from making their leg out of recycled materials, creating a sustainable leg that could be used in developing countries, or tailoring their leg to accommodate an everyday task that is a challenge for a prosthetic leg user (like walking downhill). Stay tuned for updates on their progress and their final products! A huge thank you to Jason Cox from JDC construction for sharing both his personal experience with his prosthetic and his professional design experience as well!

Mrs. Seals’ and Mrs. Sciutto’s biology classes put their biomolecule knowledge to the test, using forensic investigation skills to determine a victim’s last meal and identify potential suspects. A great example of science in action!

Milan Community Schools Now Accepting Nominations for 2026 Alumni/Citizenship Award

Milan Community Schools are seeking nominations for the prestigious 2026 Milan Alumni/Citizenship Award.

The Milan Alumni Award honors a Milan High School graduate who has achieved outstanding accomplishments in their professional career.

The Milan Citizenship Award recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to Milan Schools or the Milan community, regardless of whether they are a Milan High School graduate.

To nominate a deserving individual, please visit the high school website.

Nominations are due by March 27, 2026. The selection committee will carefully review all submissions and select one recipient from the pool of nominees.

The MHS band is on their annual goodwill band tour this week. Tonight they opened for the Haygood's in front of a packed house in Branson, MO!

Yesterday was SAT Day for our juniors, and to provide them with the best possible testing environment, our other students took part in some incredible experiences.

Freshmen traveled to NKU for a campus visit and got a glimpse of campus life.

Sophomores visited the Indiana National Guard base in Shelbyville to learn more about service and career opportunities.

Seniors spent the day job shadowing and finalizing college plans for the fall.

It was a great day of real-world learning and future planning for students across all grade levels!
