Veterans Honored at Milan Schools

Milan Community Schools Celebrate Veterans Day

The pandemic made Veterans Day celebrations a bit different this year for all students and staff at Milan Community Schools. Superintendent Jane Rogers said, “Although the pandemic has changed our programs, it does not diminish our gratitude for our local veterans, family members, and staff who have served our great country.”  Each school found a new way to honor veterans and learn more about Veterans Day.

The Milan Student Council created a moving video tribute to veterans. Created by the junior class members of Student Council, the video contained songs from Milan High School band and choir, an interview with retired staff member Tom Reale, and words from Principal Ryan Langferman and Superintendent Jane Rogers.

The Student Council also created a slideshow of veterans photos that were submitted by students. This slideshow played throughout the school during the day.

At Milan Intermediate and Middle Schools, students created signs and posters honoring the service of veterans. The signs were placed outside of the school so that those passing by the school could enjoy them.  The posters decorated the lobby area.

The fourth graders at Milan Elementary School were filmed singing a patriotic song which was shared to all classes. The elementary students used this opportunity to write cards of appreciation to Milan American Legion Post #235 member, Ron Mills.  Mr. Mills visits the school monthly to honor the Students of the Month.
