Here is an update on our Milan Works! program. It was started last year and is coordinated by MHS teacher Kyle Flynn. We have many students who are participating in internships along with taking Ivy Tech dual credit classes. The internships give students valuable opportunities to explore possible career options. Often, this confirms to students that the choices they have made are on track with their career goals. However, it may also provide students an opportunity to discover that they have a different passion they would like to pursue. Both of these outcomes make for a positive experience helping students through difficult, real life decisions.
One of the most exciting projects from last year was the opening of the Tribal Brew Coffee Shop located in Milan High School’s atrium. It is successfully continuing this year, providing students with opportunities to experience introductory level entrepreneurship. We appreciate the support of many local businesses who host students in their internship experiences.
Recently four of our seniors shared their first semester experiences. Maddie Schmidt and Ben Hartwell presented to our school board at the December meeting, explaining about their internships at Margaret Mary Health. Then Mikayla O'Brien and Jessica Starkey were guests on our podcast and also gave information about their internships at MMH. Here is the link if you'd like to listen.
We are always looking for more businesses in our area who would like to participate, so please call Milan High School if you are interested.
