Maximizing Student Achievement So That All Students Graduate
These are exciting times for the Milan Community Schools. This year we have embarked on a plan to provide all of our students with a 21st century education. During the summer we made all of our schools wireless. We have purchased five classroom sets of laptop computers that can be shared by teachers in the schools. Additional sets are planned for next year. These are preparatory steps in getting our students ready to use technology as a learning tool in their education. Our teachers are being trained in the use of technology and digital curricula so that by 2014 we can put a laptop into the hands of every student in grades 4 through 12.
In addition to our technology initiative, we are developing plans at the school level called "Failure is not an option." This initiative is intended to target students who fail to master individual learning standards by giving them extra help and may include having them retake assessments when they are not successful. The goal is not to allow students to fall behind, which often results in them giving up. School improvement committees in each building will be developing the details of the plan.
Our goal is to offer the students of Milan the best education in Ripley County, one which will see all students receive a high school diploma and leave us prepared for whatever path they choose to pursue as they make their own way in the world.
We are always interested in your input. Please contact your school's principal if you want to become more involved, or email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Thanks.
